Learning Outcome 2 (U3): Be able to plan and develop pre-production materials for an original media product to a client brief (P3, M2)

LO2 Unit 3: Be able to plan and develop pre-production materials for an original media product to a client brief

Moodboard

This is my mood board. It gives an insight into what my magazine will look like and what will be included in it. For example, my magazine colours will be pink and purple. This is due to the fact pop music is associated with happy vibes so to continue this theme, album covers as shown use a pink or a purple tinge. I will continue this pink and purple theme with my magazine as it could be easily recognised as pop music whereas if I used darker colours such as grey it could be seen as rap or grime. I have also included my fonts for my front cover.

Font styles
The mast head will use two fonts but the strap line cover line and featured article on the front cover will be written in Bentosa which is the same font that passion is written in. And the body copy will be written in birds of paradise in purple to keep with the theme.

Prisma- Biggest and most outstanding font on the front cover. This is so people will recognise it as a pop music magazine. This font also gives an idea of the title from the TV show Top of the pops which is a big part of pop music history in the UK.

Bentosa- A lighter and more feminine font to relate to the primary target audience but also gives a more mature vibe due to the fact its          script.

Coolvelica- This will be used as the body copy font as it keeps it simple in order for it to be easy to read

Colour Palette

Here is my colour scheme of pinks and purples. The reason I have picked these is due to the various connotations.

Pink- This colour is connoted with femininity. This is the reason I have chosen this colour is that my primary target audience is teenage girls, so it could immediately attract them to buy my magazine. Pink is a warm colour which will give them a welcoming feeling.

Purple-This colour contrasts with the pink. This is because pink gives a childish vibe however the purple on the front cover gives it a more mature vibe therefore keeping with the theme of a More mature pop music magazine.
The peppiness
these colours give off connotes the music genre itself as this music is all about being yourself and majority of time love and because love makes everyone happy.

Sketches

Location Recce

Location: Roundhouse
Address: Chalk Farm Rd, Camden Town, London NW1 8EH

The first location is the Roundhouse concert venue in Camden, northwest London. It is approximately 50m from Chalk Farm Underground station, on the Northern Line.

This is a very busy part of Camden, especially on weekends and in the evenings. Clearly, it is busiest in the evenings on which concerts are held.

Potential problems:
Could rain meaning the electrical equipment could break and could lead to us having an electric shock.

Members of the public could trip over the tripod. This could lead to them being hurt and potentially suing the company.

Problems on public transport such as delays on the northern line could lead to me being late which means there may not be good lighting or it could be busy. Transportation of equipment on the Underground could also be problematic, with potential for breakages and theft.

Actions taken to overcome the problem

Check the whether forecast to ensue that the day we shoot isn't raining and has nice enough weather to get a good shoot but not raining so it ruins the equipment

When taking photos i will ensure I'm out of the way of the general public so no one trips over my tripod.

I will check the transport on the tfl app to ensure there are no delays and the lines and busses are in good service.

Location: Camden Lock Bridge
 Postcode: NW1 8AL

The second location is Camden Lock Bridge, situated just off Chalk Farm Road. This is approximately 500m northwest of Camden Town Station. From the first location, it is approximately 1km.

Camden Lock is one of the busiest parts of Camden, with Camden Market close by. It is very busy with both tourists and locals. In the summertime, it is a popular lunch spot for office workers.

The bridge itself is 2m roughly wide, and 50m across, spanning Regent's Canal.

Potential problems:

Surface of bridge could be slippery which could lead to slipping and injury

Equipment could fall into the water

Raining will ruin the atmosphere of the pictures and could ruin the equipment; an eletric shock could be a potential hazard.

Actions to overcome the problem:

Ensure me and the model are careful when walking along the bridge an swear appropriate shoes that won't make it more slippery.

Equipment being attached to straps such as a wrist strap on a camera and I will hold the tripod tightly.

I will check the weather app to ensure that the weather is not raining and if it is I will change my shoot another day

Location: The stables Camden

Address:842 Chalk Farm Rd

This is the stables in camden. Its a very busy, trendy and popular place in camden. This location will fit to the theme of my magazine as it will be a place that north London teenagers know well and may have gone shopping there. And due to the fact its trendy it will keep with my magazine theme of being up-to-date.

Potential Problems:

Can be very busy so it may be difficult to take pictures and not have other people walking in them.

Equipment could be in the way of the general public meaning they could trip over it.

Due to the busy area people may pick pocket my camera and or equipment meaning i can't do the shoot.

Actions to overcome the problem:

I will take a picture at a time that is not so busy and will ensure when i take the picture i will ensure I'm out of the general publics way to get the shot.

When I am shooting I will ensure that I have an item such as a sign to warn the public there could be a trip hazard.

When I'm Taking my pictures I will keep watch on my equipment so nobody steals my items. I will also make sure i have someone with me to watch my items when I'm occupied taking pictures.

Legal and Ethical issues

Legal

  • Trespassing- This could affect my work as I could be taking photos and see a place that would be a good setting which may be private land and if i walked there it would be illegal and i could get fined. To over come this i will check signs to ensure where I'm walking isn't private land
  • Privacy- This could affect my work as if people don't give me permission and they are in my pictures they could potentially sue me. To overcome this i will ensure my pictures are away from the general public
  • Discrimination- This could affect my work as if people feel discriminated in my magazine they could sue me. To overcome this i will ensure i value diversity.
  • Copyright- I must make sure that my artist isn't wearing branded clothing and my body copy is all my own work. This is so I don't break any laws on copyright. To overcome this i will ensure all content is original and if anything else is used i will course the item
  • Under 18s- If i am using people under the age of 18 I must have permission from their parents to photograph them. i will overcome this by having parent or guardian sign a talent release for allowing them to do it so the company doesn't get sued for breaching caldrons privacy.
Ethical
  • Appropriate- I must ensure my content is appropriate for ages 15-19 year olds and doesn't use mature content that 15 year olds shouldn't see. Therefore, it shouldn't contain excessive swearing; drug and alcohol use; and sexualised images. This is so my magazine doesn't get reported and taken down. I will over come this as i will ensure all content is appropriate for the age group for example keeping language clean and no nude images of anyone.
  • Racism- No racism in my magazine as we value all diversities and bring in readers of all ethnicities. Therefore, I will not use discriminatory language, and answer I feature people of a variety of ethnicities across the magazine's content. I can over come this by valuing diversity and not being racist in any way shape or form.
  • Bias- my magazine will not show biased views on situations as we shouldn't tell our readers what to think; we should aways strive to present a blanked viewpoint when reporting. i will overcome this by ensuring i put both viewpoints in articles so we hear the whole story and people can decide what to think for themselves.
  • Political- My magazine will not show my political views and will remain politically neutral. We will avoid stories of an overtly political nature, and only feature artists in the magazine with views that are not politically extreme. I will over come this by
  • Prejudice- I will not show any homophobic and sexist language in this magazine. My aim is to empower people rather than putting them down. This could lead to my magazine being taken down. To overcome this i will ensure all my content talks about is being fair and equal in society.
