Documenting the post production processes

I created a text box by clicking on the highlighted box on the side of the screen. Then I drew the box to be the size it needed to be to fit all my text in. I the wrote my text in the box and gave it the correct size and font. I'd previously downloaded the font from dafont.com.

To change my background colour I clicked on the paint bucket that is hilighted on the side and then picked a colour. I chose pink to go with the theme of my magazine. I then clicked on my background layer and clicked the page and it changed the colour from white to pink.

I then took this picture of my model at the roundhouse and created a new document and dragged the picture in from my desktop into the document. I then used the cropping tool to crop out some the background.

Once most of the background was cropped out i then used the magnetic lasso to crop her full image out so it's only her in the picture.I then copied and pasted my model onto my magazine so it then had a main image and began to look like this.

I used this barcode that i found on google images to place at the bottom of my magazine as it is one of the codes and conventions on a magazine.

Then I found this background image on google images and placed it onto my magazine by dragging the picture from my desktop into the photoshop document.
I then moved the layer to the bottom of the other layers on the right-hand side of the screen, so it would go behind all the other layers and it became the background.

I then put effects on this layer and made it highlight with a capacity of of 30% i played around with the tool and then i saw that this right capacity looked aesthetically pleasing along with the pinks and the purples.

I then created a puff piece by using the elipse tool and creating the circle

I then changed the puff colour to white with a purple edge to keep to the colour scheme [how did you do this?]

I then changed the strap line colour by using the paint bucket tool and filling it in yellow to match the skyline.

Here is my document being set up to create the double page spread. I set it to present on international paper size A3.

I began by drawing a text box and created the title of the article which is called "up and coming"

I then found this image on google and placed it as my background

I then cropped my image to cut out most of the background. I then used the magnetic lasso to cut around my model and the magic wand tool to get out all the background that was missed.

I then copied and pasted my model and placed her onto my double page spread

I then created a text box and wrote out my body copy and moulded it around the picture.
I added in photos to scatter around the side of the page to give my double page spread a more visual effect.

Front cover and double page spread
I have exported these both as a jpeg then uploaded onto my blog.

Target audience review
A strength of my magazine front cover is that I have channelled the genre of north London pop and showed it clearly on my front cover. This is presented in the name, the colour scheme and the layout of the magazine. The name of the magazine, Pop Passion, is a strength as it gives the name of the genre (pop) so when people are looking for the magazine they will recognise it as a pop music magazine in shops. My colour scheme of pink, purple, yellow, blue and white is a strength as it uses bright colours to connote the happy vibes that pop music gives off. My brief states a 'vibrant' music scene. This is why I used these bright colours, so it reflects the upbeat mood pop gives off as it as the colours reflect the mood of the reader. Also, due to the fact I have used five colours in total that all complement each other, the magazine looks aesthetically pleasing to the audience and they could potentially buy it over another competitor as the front cover looks as if more is going on making them think it is full of more content than other magazines. The layout of my magazine is very busy. This is a feature used on a lot of pop magazines. The layout is perfect for my primary target audience as there are cover lines more directed to a female target audience, and considering my main feature article is about an 18 year old girl they will relate more to her. According to the uses and gratifications theory created by Blumer and Katz my magazine aims to inform, entertain and be used as a type of escapism for my readers. My magazine does all of these things; for example, it informs my readers about the venues included and what people think of them; entertains my readers with up to date information about the artists; and it is used as an escape as it's about the life of a celebrity rather than focusing on the reader's own life. It will also relate to my my secondary target audience of younger sisters of the primary target audience as they look up to their older siblings so then reading these stories they can feel as if they can relate to their big sisters.  This reflects my brief as it being a vibrant music scene means the front cover should have a lot going on to show that pop music is popular and has a lot of stories to share.

My brief explains this magazine should be aimed at north London teenagers. I feel that I have followed the brief as on my front cover I ensured I used key words that will show that it is based in north London such as "North London's newest pop star" "The Roundhouse". Also, as my magazine is aimed at teenagers, my main featured article is about a teenager so the target audience can relate to her and my magazine. My double page spread also reflects the north London theme as the pictures scattered around the edge were taken in north London. My double page spread also fits into this as i begin my article with 'we caught up with her before her show at the Roundhouse' which is a north London venue. I also took pictures and scattered them around the edge that were taken at three different locations in north London. One being the Roundhouse, one being the Stables in Camden and the other being the bridge in Camden market.

However, some weaknesses of my magazines include being a bit childish due to the mise-en-scene showing the singer's facial expression on the front cover of my magazine. Conventional pop magazines' mise-en-scene have pictures of the artists with pouts or a slight smirk on their face whereas my magazine has my artist with a big smile on her face making it look more like girl pop than a more sophisticated pop magazine. This could mean the older end of target audience may not be as eager to buy it as it may look a little bit childish. The colour palette uses a lot of colours, which is more childish; older teenagers tend to be more plain in the dress codes. Therefore, this could mean my magazine doesn't appeal to the older end of my target audience.

Another weakness is some of my content may not be aimed as much towards the LGBT community, which is my secondary audience. I could've included more content such as the LGBT flag or articles including being yourself or coming out stories to encourage them to be themselves.

One improvement I could make on my magazine is find out how I could aim it at the 17-19 year old target audience as well as the 15-16 year old audience. This would mean it would have a wider audience reading my magazine meaning more sales in my magazine against other competitors.
Another improvement I could make is target it towards the LGBT community more than I have in this issue as it would then cover more of my secondary target audience, meaning the LGBT community will also feel more included when reading my magazine. One more improvment i could make on my magazine is I could write some other stories that will relate to the 14 year olds such as new hits etc. This would then cover all of my primary target audience and the majority of my secondary target audience.
